3 Tips to Make the Most of Your Event

Perhaps you are attending a smaller event with your fraternal, like your annual convention or a regional meeting? Or maybe your team is going to an industry event with nationwide attendance like the upcoming American Fraternal Alliance Spring Symposium? In either scenario, you likely paid a fair sum to be there and learn something applicable to your job and business.

Here are three tips to help you get the most out of any meeting without stressing about crowds or a packed agenda.

# 1 Rather than view "networking" as work, view it as making friends, which is more fun. Getting to know someone well takes time. Instead, see networking as making a few friendly acquaintances. You already have much in common with meeting attendees so it's easy to build on that foundation. When standing near someone new, give a smile, perhaps a nod, a simple hello and your name. They will do the same! Your conversation may evolve from there, or it may continue later in the buffet line, the meeting session or at cocktail hour. Either way, you have put yourself and the other person at ease by eliminating an "unknown" (being near someone you don't know).

# 2 Make a point to meet many or most vendors, even if your company does not need their product or service. Learn about other companies either directly in your business or that provide peripheral or supportive products and services to companies like yours. By becoming familiar with who the sponsors or exhibitors are, you will be able to offer suggestions or contribute to a conversation when the topic turns to "My company does..." or "Our next project is..." or "An issue we have is..." Your peers will perceive you as helpful, knowledgeable about your industry, and informed about the particular event.

# 3 Think about the overall educational focus of the event and the topics of individual breakout sessions to identify which sessions and topics will benefit you and your company the most. What topics add to your knowledge base? What topics are timely for your company's projects or plans? Prepare your personal schedule in advance to ensure you maximize your time by learning new, timely, and/or relevant information. Keynote speakers are engaging and entertaining, but their presentations are usually more general in order to appeal to a larger audience. The smaller topic-focused sessions will offer the most substance and deserve the majority of your time and attention. Back to Tip #1, make an effort to separate yourself from co-workers and sit next to someone new or choose a different seat. You are also there to friendwork, after all!

Of all the conference Do's and Don'ts you might be aware of, please DO participate in the meeting activities, games and social events. Event organizers and sponsoring companies work hard to help you enjoy your time. Step outside your comfort zone just a bit, meet a few new smiling faces, and you're sure to have a good time.

IAC Launches Medicare Supplement Claims Auto-Adjudication System

Austin, TX – January, 2018 – QLAdmin Solutions recently launched their newest module for the QLAdmin policy administration system; the Medicare Supplement claims auto-adjudication module. All plans in every state are supported including foreign travel. The first client installation for the new module was recently completed with Individual Assurance Company (IAC) of Oklahoma.

IAC has been a QLAdmin client since 2002, and this new claims module was the result of a strategic joint development project. In 2016, IAC’s president Jim Harlan approached QLAdmin Solutions with the project idea. As QLAdmin was already integral to IAC insurance operations, developing a Medicare Supplement insurance claims auto-adjudication module to work with QLAdmin was key to the company’s future business expansion plans.

Darrell Davis, VP Medicare Supplement Operations, explains; “I have worked with QLAdmin and their staff for 15 years. Not only is QLAdmin the best policy administration software I have encountered during my 35+ years in the insurance industry, the people at QLAdmin are second to none in customer support and implementation services.”

The Medicare Supplement claims auto-adjudication module is an off-the-shelf solution that provides companies full adjudication capabilities for all Medicare Supplement plans in every state. Unique to the QLAdmin system is the user dashboard display which includes viewing real-time and historical processing metrics, drilling down to individual claims and payment details, and generating claims reports and notifications.

The additional key components are the Business Rules Engine, Rate Increase Management tool and Manual Claims Queue. These business user interface tools work together to provide companies complete control over plan and benefit processing, rate increase implementations, and claim exception settlement.

At the heart of Medicare Supplement claims system is the independent auto-adjudication engine, which enables rapid processing of 800 to 1000 service lines per minute. Multiple processing agents can run at the same time, 24 hours a day, and each is continuously queuing claims files for batch processing. And once individual files are processed, they are archived for as long as needed.

Like many insurance companies in the MedSup business, IAC had long used a Third-Party Administrator (TPA) to handle the complex claims processing and benefit payments for their Medicare Supplement insurance business. Bringing this business back in house and establishing an expert claims department was a pivotal yet economical strategy for IAC’s future business model.

Within the first month of launching the QLAdmin auto-adjudication module, IAC realized adjudication success ratios ranging from 94% to 96%, and claims staff were extremely pleased with the efficiency in overall processing.

“We’re processing claims faster, more accurately, and with less staff with the QLAdmin claims module, resulting in lower claims administration expenses,” says Davis.

Really...we did! As a first time attendee and exhibitor at the Medicare Supplement Insurance Conference in Dallas, Texas, I can honestly say our team had a blast. Of course we enjoy each other's company already, but we had such a great time hanging out and talking with attendees at our exhibit booth. And what a treat to see a few current clients there and catch up with them! Exhibit days can be long, it's true. But with plenty of breaks and the ability to meet other exhibitors, several we already knew, there was no shortage of conversation and networking.

I don't say this often about industry conferences, but the food and beverage service was truly delicious and outstanding. Jesse Slome and Mindy Hartman with the American Association of Medicare Supplement Insurance deserve major kudos for pulling off this grand event.
